4.13.10 - SCHROCK QUALIFIES ON THE POLE, FINISHES THIRD IN VEGAS

CULPEPER, VA (April 13, 2010) – Eli Schrock drove his Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle Midget to a third place finish at the Las Vegas Bullring in Saturday night's points racing for the USAC Western Pavement and USAC SoCal Ford Focus Midget Series.

The 16 year-old entered the race as the incoming points leader in both the Western Pavement and SoCal Ford Focus Midget Series.

Racing on the immaculate 3/8ths mile asphalt oval located just beyond the full 1.5 mile long Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Schrock was joined by four teammates for the busy weekend of racing.

After testing and practice on Friday and Saturday afternoon, Schrock backed up his strong start to the season by qualifying on the pole with a 15.644 second lap over the field of 15 entrants.

So far brilliant in heat racing through his early USAC career, Schrock paced himself to bring his car home third in the first heat race.

Schrock raced to the front in the 30 lap feature after starting sixth due to the inversion. Schrock ran fourth, behind teammate Jimmy Moon for most of the race.

After making a clean pass for third, Schrock started to reel in the leaders.  Schrock ran out of laps, but had a clean run through heavy traffic.

Schrock completed the Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle sweep of the top three positions by finishing third.  Moon finished fifth, giving the team four of the top five spots.

Schrock left Vegas trailing by just one point in both the USAC Western Pavement and USAC SoCal Ford Focus Midget Series, to teammate Bobby Runyan. Schrock will look to continue his SoCal championship run on May 8 at Orange Show Speedway while the Western Focuses continue on in Northern California for several NorCal races.

“Simply another strong run for Eli,” head of driver development Ron Sutton said. “Eli hasn’t had a bad race yet in the midgets and he is no way performing like a rookie. He is definitely one of the top contenders for the SoCal title.
