SCHROCK CONTINUES TO LEAD USAC SOCAL FOCUSES AS A ROOKIE
CULPEPER,
VA (August 18, 2010) –
Virginian asphalt rookie Eli Schrock, 16, finished third in Saturday
night’s USAC SoCal Ford Focus Midget Series feature at Orange Show
Speedway in San Bernardino, Calif to maintain his points lead in the
division.
The rookie member of the Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle program has
accumulated an average finish of third over his first seven career
asphalt races, including a pair of wins and three third place
finishes.
Schrock opened up the evening in his Woodwork Manufacturing and
Supply Midget by qualifying third quick. Schrock recorded a time of
12.955 seconds around the quarter-mile asphalt oval.
After finishing third in the trophy dash, Schrock turned his
attention to the feature. Starting third out of 13 cars for the 40
lap distance, Schrock was shuffled to fourth on the opening lap.
In the middle of the close and competitive pack of cars, Schrock
moved back into third on lap three. The close racing continued with
Schrock taking over second on lap 11 before falling back to third on
lap 17.
Schrock maintained a strong and consistent third place effort all
the way to the finish, turning his best lap of the race on lap 30 of
the contest.
The third place finish gives Schrock an eight point advantage over
teammate Bobby Runyan, Jr. in the SoCal championship series points.
The series returns to action on September 11 at Stockton 99
Speedway.
“Eli came out of the gate swinging by winning his first race and has
been fast all season long as a rookie,” head of driver development
Ron Sutton said. “The championship battle is going to be fun to
watch and Eli has an excellent opportunity to win it!”
